Senior Backend .NET Engineer | AI FinTech Startup | Sydney (Primarily Remote)

Salary: $160k+ Super

We’re partnering with a fast-growing AI FinTech startup that’s building a next-generation financial platform from the ground up. Having secured significant investment and with ambitious growth plans ahead, they’re looking for a Senior Backend .NET Engineer to help shape the architecture and engineering standards of their core platform.

This is a genuine greenfield opportunity where you’ll spend the majority of your time building scalable backend services, APIs and distributed systems using the latest Microsoft technologies. Working in a small, high-performing engineering team, you’ll have significant ownership over technical decisions while enjoying the flexibility of a primarily remote working environment, with occasional Sydney meetups for planning and collaboration.

What you’ll be working on:

• Designing and building high-performance backend services using .NET 9, C# and microservices.
• Developing event-driven applications using Azure Service Bus, messaging patterns and Azure Functions.
• Building secure, scalable APIs powering a modern financial platform.
• Working across the full software development lifecycle from architecture through to deployment.
• Contributing to engineering standards, code reviews and technical direction.
• Mentoring junior engineers with a clear pathway into a Lead Engineer role.

What we’re looking for:

• Strong commercial experience with C# and modern .NET (6/8/9).
• Proven experience building backend systems and microservices.
• Hands-on Azure experience, particularly Azure Functions and Azure Service Bus.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architecture.
• SQL database experience alongside CI/CD and Git.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in a startup environment.

Nice to have:

• React exposure.
• Terraform or Bicep.
• FinTech or financial services experience.
• Previous mentoring or leadership experience.
